Giuseppe Tartini and Pietro Locatelli are considered the founders of modern violin virtuosity. Locatelli’s Concerto Grosso in C combines elegance with sparkling solos for the orchestra, while Tartini’s famous Devil’s Trill Sonata was inspired by a dream in which the devil himself played the violin.

The program opens with Bartók’s Divertimento for string orchestra, a dynamic work infused with folk music influences. Finally, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, together with Ray Chen, will perform Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires in an arrangement by Leonid Desyatnikov, in which Vivaldi’s earlier composition subtly resonates.
