What makes a film scene iconic? Is it the music that creates tension, or the way the camera captures a moment? In Oppositions, this dynamic is explored by screening one film four times, each time with a different soundtrack. Four composers from different musical backgrounds – from rock and heavy metal to jazz and classical – give the images a new meaning each time. Barbara Meter, a pioneer in experimental film, provides the visual foundation. Her poetic, layered films lend themselves like no other to this confrontation with music. Each performance reveals a different interpretation, as if fate offers a new scenario each time.
