Green key 

Since October 2010, De Doelen has been the proud holder of the Golden Green Key, the international quality mark for environmentally friendly companies. The Green Key is an effective means of measuring environmental performance in companies and guarantees an organisation's commitment to doing more for the environment than is required by law and regulations. 

Rotterdam Climate Initiative

De Doelen is a co-signatory of two covenants that were concluded in Rotterdam. The covenant 'Green Theater' and 'Sustainable Hotels and Conference Locations Rotterdam'.

These covenants were initiated by the agency Rotterdam Climate Initiative. The participants have committed themselves to limit their environmental impact as much as possible. By obtaining the Green Key, De Doelen is fulfilling these covenants and making a structural contribution to the sustainability of Rotterdam. 

7 Square Endeavour

De Doelen is one of the seven partners of 7 Square Endeavour. This international collaboration and sustainability project has the mission to make cities future-proof. It responds to global urbanization and its negative consequences such as pollution, heat stress and flooding on a local scale.

Smart and innovative use of energy is one of the spearheads of this project. The Schouwburgplein functions as a testing ground for new innovative technologies, cyclical processes and business models. The Rotterdam square is the first square in a series of seven worldwide.
