There are rising stars and there are rising stars. Jess Gillam is without doubt one of the biggest rising stars of the moment. With her rather unusual instrument for classical music, the saxophone, she is the figurehead of Britain's new free and creative generation.

Jess Gillam was the first saxophonist to reach the final of the BBC Young Musicians and the youngest ever soloist at the Last Night of the Proms, the spectacular finale of the BBC Proms. She now performs around the world, from the Royal Albert Hall to the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, as a soloist with orchestra or with her own ensemble. Jess Gillam comes to de Doelen with a chamber music programme that reflects her and her instrument: an adventurous mix of old and new works, both original and adapted for the saxophone.

Not just one of Britain’s most virtuosic instrumentalists, but also an unstuffy, inspiring personality
