The essence of classical music is that a piece can become topical yet again (or stay topical). But it is painful how topical Rzewski's The People United Will Never Be Defeated! is again now.  

Considering the contemporary state of the world, the reasons for playing Ralph van Raat's monumental protest piece are infinite. In The People United Will never Be Defeated!, Rezewski transforms a protest song by the Chilean Sergio Ortegia into a grand work of more than an hour, in which the song is repeated in multiple styles and variations. From the electric work El Pueblo by Bart Spaan, in which a group of people shout ‘The peoploe united will never be defeated!’, starts Rzewski extra powerful with visuals from real life protests.
