Elisabeth Hetherington has been announced as the winner of the Nederlandse Muziekprijs (Dutch Music Award). It is the most prestigious award for a musician working in classical music and is bestowed by the Performing Arts Fund NL on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. Minister Eppo Bruins shall present the award on Friday 4 October 2024 at the De Doelen concert hall in Rotterdam.
Dutch-Canadian soprano Elisabeth Hetherington collaborates with two ensembles to combine old and new music. In a unique programme, she manages to effortlessly bridge the gap between the seventeenth and twenty-first century, connecting the known to the unknown. B’Rock and HIIIT (formerly Slagwerk Den Haag) come together for the first time to realise this special programme.

The committee on Elisabeth Hetherington
The committee is impressed by Elisabeth Hetherington’s tonal dexterity when singing. “With seemingly effortless suppleness and clarity, she transverses a wide-ranging repertoire of renaissance, baroque, to newly composed music. Elisabeth Hetherington goes from intimate to temperamental, from serene to dynamic, with an astounding naturalness. This musical playfulness surprises the listener, makes her performances captivating and refreshing, and repeatedly casts the music in a new light.”

About the Nederlandse Muziekprijs
Candidates for the award complete a study programme dedicated to personal musical development, working with musicians from the Netherlands and abroad. Upon completion of the programme, the committee of the Nederlandse Muziekprijs advises the Performing Arts Fund NL whether the prize can be awarded. The committee members are Mauricio Fernandez, Ad 's-Gravesande, Marcel Mandos, Simone Meijer, Bart Visman, Ralph van Raat, and Karin Manuel as independent chair.
