On Saturday, November 22, 2025, de Doelen will celebrate 50 years of Suriname's independence with a grand musical spectacle. During this special evening, Surinamese music history and cultural diversity come together in a concert full of iconic songs and surprising reinterpretations.

A musical journey through 50 years of Suriname
Surinamese music has always played an important role in the identity of the country and the diaspora. From kaseko and Suri pop to Afro-Surinamese, Hindustani and Javanese classics-this evening is a musical time travel in which Suriname's heritage comes alive. Accompanied by a top orchestra of Surinamese musicians from diverse ethnic backgrounds, Dutch and Surinamese artists will perform songs that have remained beloved for generations.

With performances by among others Powl Ameerali, Nisha Madaran and Oscar Harris and a carefully composed repertoire, Suriname's greatest hits will be given a new look. The evening will be a special mix of nostalgia, celebration and reflection on the cultural developments of the past 50 years.
