de Doelen opens de Doelen Radio

with Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam and Rijnmond as first partners

De Doelen opens Studio 7: De Doelen Radio, a brand new radio studio on the street side of the building for both amateur and professional radio makers. The first partners are Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam and Rijnmond. With Studio 7, De Doelen strengthens its social role in Rotterdam and renovates the building, where talent, culture and media come together.

De Doelen Radio is a studio for making programs and telling stories, equal to the standards of commercial, public and regional broadcasters. The studio is primarily intended for (new) partners, from amateurs to seasoned professionals, who want to make radio at a fixed time each week all year round. The live broadcasts of Doelen Radio can be listened to from November 2024 via various (online) channels, while passers-by can take a look at the studio from the street.

Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam takes over the studio every week with students, supervised by Okkie Vijfwinkel, also known as DJ Okkie. Young talent is given the opportunity to develop their media skills and gain experience in a professional environment. “If an icon like Rotterdam's Doelen opens its doors wide to enter into a sustainable partnership with leading Rotterdam MBO educational institutions, we at Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam would like to commit ourselves to this and contribute to it," says sector director Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam Ron van As.

Rijnmond is also a proud partner of Doelen Radio and is joining in with a radio program for new media talent. "Rijnmond is the media platform for emerging talent. That is why we are proud to be part of the unique interpretation of de Doelen Studios. Various organizations give talents a chance there and we are one of them. With this radio program we give undiscovered talents a great opportunity to present themselves, and that in a very inspiring environment", says Rijnmond editor-in-chief Ruud van Os.

In addition to Doelen Radio, six new studios have been created on the ground floor thanks to the Municipality of Rotterdam, Stichting Droom en Daad and Team Doelen. On Thursday 24 October, De Doelen will celebrate the opening of these studios, including a Kids Corner, a training restaurant with Zadkine Hospitality College, a city lab for dialogues and presentations, and an art gallery with CBK Rotterdam. The existing Doelen Studio has now moved to the corner of Kruisplein/Schouwburgplein.
