In the week of National Remembrance, we play music by Mendelssohn - forbidden repertoire during the years of occupation. The elf-like lightness of his Overture to Midsummer Night's Dream and the noble profundity of his Fifth Symphony, which builds on Bach and points ahead to Bruckner, Wagner and Mahler: let us not forget how fortunate we are to be able to enjoy it now in freedom.
