From 2:00 PM, the doors of the Divali Family Festival open, welcoming you to an afternoon bursting with music, culinary delights, and culture. Awaken your senses with authentic Indian and Surinamese flavors, enjoy inspiring demonstrations such as yoga for a moment of inner peace, and experience a colorful sari show that brings the rich heritage of both India and Suriname to life.

Lecture: Generation, History, and Tradition

At 4:00 PM, a special lecture follows, led by the Indian Ambassador and the chairman of the FCCI, Mr. Jasbir Singh. Together with speaker Vijay Gangadin, dive into the fascinating history of the Indian diaspora and the Hindostani community from Suriname in the Netherlands. Share, discuss, and experience the conversation with both the panel and the audience.

Evening Program full of Light, Music, and Passion

From 6:00 PM, the evening celebration begins with a magical opening by classical singer Berry Damrie, followed by diverse performances that bring together young and old. Discover the talent of the Hindostani Youth Ensemble led by Sunil Chitaroe, immerse yourself in the Divali spirit with the vocal fireworks of Rotterdam-based Kieran Kedar, and admire the stars of the future: the children of the Sri Saravati School. The evening will be even more festive with Suriname’s most prominent music ensemble, Freestyle, led by Neelam Matadin and Sathyam Matadin, presenting a sparkling Divali Concert you don’t want to miss!
